MORE ON AMTRAK 134 Here is road number 134 from the 2000/2001 Amtrak Genesis order from the GE Transportation Division at Erie, Pennsylvania. It received fresh 3G paint and other updates between May and September of 2023. Our first photo is in original 3G wide skirt, with the steel nose and as-delivered headlight box. Photo #2 has the skirt band narrowed, the number board changed, and small side logos gone. A bolt-on nose was added later. In 2024, Amtrak adopted a new paint scheme for its locomotives, with the first of this group getting the treatment being #138 of this group. This group has a unit that will not come back (#133). In the past it might have been rebuilt (such as 131 was after a 2001 Texas Eagle wreck believed to be due to a track washout), but likely not #133 with the current order of Chargers replacing them. Engine #134 was delivered in wide skirt band millennium livery, and later redone into narrow skirt band version at the first overhaul. This happened around 2004. A few years later, #134 received a bolt-on nose cone. As of September 4, 2023 it looked brand new again. The 3G paint was being replaced with a new 4G version starting in 2024, but unless something catastropic happens, #134 will remain running in the old millennium style for several years. Serial numbers for 130-139 represent the first group of ten that were all delivered originally in wide skirt band millenium paint. During 2004-05 Amtrak's new logo originally appeared three times on the flanks. The first to be repainted from this group of ten were 132 135 138 and 139. Two of the side logos disappeared at that point. Later on, steel noses were changed to the bolt-on variety. That process was mostly very gradual, ending up taking about 15 years. Here are 2023-2025 reports for #134. It remains a roamer, while 130-131-132 are typically assigned to the northeast corridor. To track a particular train's history, you can go to Dixieland Software and the asm.transitdocs.com website. Not all movements were necessarily captured and there can be errors. The train assignment number is listed with date(s). Note that on the east coast, locomotives are added and subtracted at various points, and diesels are typically not on the total consist. This is normally south of Ivy City for #134 (In 2024, engines #85-130 are normally also operating in the northeast).
