General Electric manufactured the P40/P42 series
of diesel locomotives at Erie, Pennsylvania, during the period 1993-2001. 25+ Years and still rolling! Amtrak purchased 44 P40's, 207 P42's, and 18 dualmodes (the latter with New York State support for Empire Services).

P42 LOCATION PORTAL The public web site has mostly gone into the sunset after 20 years due to lack of broadband at our location. We've been asking every day for several years, but evidently it is still 5-10 years away here. Our legacy wire line provider no longer services its network here, choosing to concentrate repairs and upgrades in other places (mostly Colorado). Accordingly, our lines are noisy and frequently out of service. It is no longer possible to maintain a website from this location.

On November 18, Amtrak began using the DuPont cut off in Washington State. Train 11-18 was the first long distance train to traverse. Earlier attempts to use this route resulted in disaster on December 18, 2017, as you probably remember. The cut-off, (which more closely parallels the I-5) deprives passengers of one of the most scenic portions of the old route. The theory behind it is to avoid congestion and possibly save time, but Amtrak has no plans to change timetables, so at the moment, the change is rather pointless.

We plan to work on the house a little bit this year. Drapes will do wonders..
